Bearing SKATE????
Bearing skate? I have heard the synthetic oils are so slik that a roller bearing will skate or slide on shafts instead of roll in the cage, resulting in flat spots on the bearings and damage to shaft ends. I want to get as much life out of my engine as possible, since the harley engine is cramed full of roller bearings. I am not sure i should keep running the the synthetic. Amsoil 20/50 in primary and engine, Amsoil 75/90 in trans. Hope some of you wrenches out there have some good information on this subject.

That is an Old Greybeards Tale.......
Pure Bravo Sierra......
Look, I do this for a living...
There is nothing wrong with Synthetic oil in the HD motor......
Oil is going to naturally leave a thin film on which the bearing surface slides.....
Flat spots on a bearing surface are caused by LACK OF ADEQUATE LUBRICATION, or BEARING SEIZURE....

No. That is an old wives tale started by those "Scared" of what they do not understand. I think that HD actually tried to initially blame some of those cam bearing failures on something like that. Synthetic oil is good, but not that good! Pouring synthetic oil in your Harley, is, quite possibly the best investment in longevity that you can make. If you put your ear down by the timer cover, you might even hear it say "Thank you"

RE: Bearing SKATE????
Lets say for sake of argument that the oil was so slick that the bearings didn't have enough drag to turn and just skated.
At what point would they have enough drag to wear metal off? Wouldn't they turn first?
Flat spots come from drag, not the lack of it.
Its one of those long standing myths out there....
