Well that settles it. According to the headline these new bikes are suffering from "leaky oil".

Leaky Oil

Since they are new bikes, clearly they have the HD oil in them. So it's HD oil that is leaky!

Anyone for some Amsoil?

For the Engine I use: Lucas High Performance 20w-250 (NON Motorcycle Oil) I use it as Motorcycle oil some of the friction reducers are removed to facilitate those motorcycle that use the one oil in clutch etc to avoid slippage. My thought is that I want all the friction reducers in my Engine. I use Lucas Motorcycle Trans oil which is a gear oil in the Tranny. And for the Primary. Lucas Primary Oil for Motorcycles. Not on list. I live in Canada and used to get in USA, now we have in Canada Yeh.

I'm a newbee to the Harley Davidson world I bought my FXDL August 2016. It's an older bike (1998) with as you know an EVO motor. I asked the Harley Parts guy what he recommended I run and he said HD360 20W-50 so that's what I've been using. I've changed the oil twice since then and now you all have me wondering if I should go to syn.3 or Mobil one. I want to do what's best for my bike.

Depends how often you want to change your oil. Dino oil is fine if you change it often enough = 2500~3000 miles.
Syn oil 5000 ~ 6000+

Some riders change syn oil at 3000 which I think is way too often.

It's 50/50 on whether you use the same oil in all 3 holes or 3 different fluids. I prefer 3 different. Engine oil in the engine, gear oil in the trans and primary oil in the primary.

You're going to get a lot of different answers.
Some riders even use automotive oil - I wouldn't. JMHO

I used to be a AMSOIL dealer years ago when they first started out. We used advertisements from Mobil1 because it was almost as good and Amsoil didn't have to pay to build an advertisement. I performed many tests and comparisons that proved it was cheaper to use Amsoil than regular dino oil. Its the extended drain intervals that makes it cheaper. One oil change every 20,000 to 25,000 miles on automobiles. The engine would get a lifetime guaranty if you used their oil bypass system. If you use Amsoil or Mobile1 motorcycle oil your engine gets the best protection possible. Ive see the oil particulate test results and none of the other brands can compare. Just saying.

Right, and I even have Blackstone labs reports saying it'll go longer. Now they both have 1 year/25K mile oil. Even I'm a bit uncomfortable with that.
In our local Chicago newspaper auto column someone asked about why syn oil was so much more expensive. And the guy that does the column, which is usually on the ball, did not mention that. He just said it costs more but look for sales. He didn't bring up the money you save by not doing as many changes and saving the landfills of used filters and plastic jugs. That angered me a little because he's just continuing the myth of syn oil being more expensive to use.

If you use Mobil One or Amsoil, Change your oil in August, then put about 1500 or so miles on it before winter, can you just leave the oil in the bike over the winter without any harm? I've read that you should change your oil once a year, regardless of mileage, so would it be OK to run that oil until next August? Even after sitting over the winter? I know everyone says to change the oil before storage, but changing after only 1500 miles on synthetic seems like a waste. Your thoughts?

With synthetic oil you are wasting your money changing it. I would change the oil filter and leave the oil. Synthetic never goes bad uless it gets over 350 degree but you do need to change the filters to clean it.
