Trust a mechanic?? Yep! Gotta start trusting people sometime. Besides how hard is it to do a simple oil change. Even a moron can do it. Engine hasn't exploded yet.

Tearing my engine apart - that's a different story.

And if they screw up, I have insurance.

Default Amsoil

I'm a new member to this forum site and here's my 2 bobs worth's. I've been using Amsoil in all my Harley's (engine, primary & Trans) from a Pan, 1340 up to 103 plus also in my classic Norton, Jawa and and Jap speedway bikes and never had a problem with it. But now I find it harder to get here in Queensland and after a lot of reading and research I'm going to give Mobil 1 a go. I'll start running it my Switchback 103 & Norton Commando until they need a service and I'll post my personal results that I think.

I still have the factory oil in my 2017 Fat Bob. I think it is HD 360 in all three cases. When I get 1,000 miles, I think I am going to change the engine to Mobile 1. In the Trans and Primary, I will probably stick with the HD oils. Hope I get it right and I only got the 2 year factory warranty.

Has anybody used Penrite oil in their motors, be Mineral or full syn. These oils are Australia owner company dating back too the 1930. They are a good oils company and all my cars petrol and diesel are running 20w-50 or 60. But I've never used them in a V-twin before. Thought?

So after much reading on oils in this forum and elsewhere (good grief) I had narrowed it down to Amsoil or Mobil 1 20/50 in all 3 holes. I used either one for many years in my 99 Yamaha Venture, putting close to 100k on her before I sold the bike. It did improve the shifting and finding neutral. For the filter on the Yamaha I used a Walmart brand filter. Those were put together real well. Newer ones I am not so sure of.
That being said I found the K&N 171 filter for 9 bucks and Mobil 1 20/50 for 9 bucks as well online at Walmart. I ordered it this AM. Free shipping too. Amsoil was around 14 per quart.

I do have to say that some have some really good stuff posted in the oils section of the forum. While I may never ever have that type of desire to delve that deep into a subject, when it comes to making lasagna I do get picky with my ingredients...........just saying......
