Used to run the Ford type. Only used it with a sealed inner primary bearing, though. Not sure how it would do with the open-type bearing.

Yep I run a Rivera Pro clutch and it's recommended by them to run atf. Closed and sealed primary, sealed bearing.

You can run just about anything in the primary. You could run Wesson oil if you wanted. I tried ATF and it didn't make a difference. My opinion is it's too thin. But that's just my opinion. Some clutch MFG's like it. Again my opinion, but they recommend it because the clutch discs they sell. Maybe it keeps the discs from sticking as much as the Harley fluid and then they can say their clutch makes the bike not clunk so much. Who really knows. ATF fluid is basically a hydraulic fluid. There's nothing in the primary that needs hydraulic fluid, like an automatic tranny needs. If you're looking for some magical fix to something it isn't with the fluid you run in the primary.

Why are you asking about ATF?

It's too thin for an open bearing.

Yes, some aftermarket clutches recommend ATF.

And many stock HD clutches are currently using it with good results. Most report better shifting, less clunk, and little to no slipping.

On the con side, some don't like the smell of the ATF and others suggest it has a negative affect on the ramps (but others report the same thing with other lubes too).
