Traveling to Portland this summer to visit the wife's family. Going to fly, but was considering renting a bike and taking a few days down 101. maybe even get a wild hair and take the bike all the way to SF and fly out of there instead.

Trip's going to be from June 19-30.

Anyone out in that area? Looking for the usual. "must do" places. not familiar with the area myself.
Know of a good shop that rents bikes?

 

If you ride the 101 or anywhere along the coast then be prepared for drastically cooler weather than you find further inland. Its not uncommon for temps to be 15-20 degrees cooler in a matter of miles plus more clouds (a marine layer is very common most of the day).

 

Also check for closures on the PCH,at least one bridge in California is washed out and will not be back to normal for at least this year.

 

oh damn. I was hoping to take my first crack at the PCH this season.
glad I got in here and checked things out. Been a rough year for the roads all over the west coast.
