Operating temperature

Hello, please, what is the engine operating temperature on your PanAm? Mine has a temperature of around 100-106°C (212-223°F) when driving slowly, the temperature is kept at 90°C (194°F) when driving above 60km/h (37mph). It is normal? Thank you.

Yes, most ice engines are now designed to run hotter at 200-230 f. Mine drops to 190 f when riding at highway speeds and may go as high as 230 in traffic.

Fully normal.

You don't want to know how hot a air-cooled Harley motor runs at. Luckily they don't provide a gauge so that we can avoid thousands of questions about temperature. :icon_biggrin:

103°C the Fan kicks in, the riding temp is always between 82-84°C. Cooling water is just about 2 Liters, so check that is enough, I keep it it at max. And synthetic oil only.

Thx all for the answers. It's my first water-cooled motorcycle. So far, I've ridden an air-cooled H-D. It is normal in the car that the temperature stays around 90 ° C, so I was surprised by such a hot engine.

Running at 45mph plus my bike will stay right around 190 degrees. If I get onto traffic or slow riding situations it jumps to 210 quickly….

Mine can get up to low 220s.

Hmmm seems to be the same range that all my cars run. It is the temp that engines run their most efficient.

I have hours of videos of my 21 Pan Am S running between 187*F-189*F, so 194*F isn't much above normal. Make sure your radiator is free flowing (fins aren't filled with mud, bugs, etc) and check your coolant level (mine was a hair low after a radiator hose replacement by the dealer) but 194 isn't too far above what mine runs. Lastly, I noticed my PAS runs closer to 189*F after I installed the heavy-duty skid plate which does interrupt some airflow so that may also be a cause too. I hope this helped!

Not to derail this topic, but HD does not recommend full syn in the PA engines. Semi-Syn 15w50 is what HD says should only be used. But back to the topic, i think oil type will not cause a major difference in the temps you run on the PA. What will make it run hotter are the radiator guards everyone uses.
