Cool removal & replace distributor

i have a 50 pan. at the risk of sounding stupid i have never removed and replaced a distributor. i did a top end rebuild and i want to change from 6 v to 12 v.
can i not just remove existing dist. with new one without having to retime the motor? can anybody help?

the original dizzy is neutral with voltage as it does not matter to the points / condenser

the ignition coil is the only thing you need to change in the ignition system

AND the dizzy wont come out with out taking the front head off

No question is considered stupid on this site

you asked about the dizzy - if your converting an original 50 pan to make it the bike worth less in the end, and its original only once

every thing 6 volt needs to be 12 volt < what a shame 66 years as it was and now its being carved up
