Default Painting mid controls

Hey guys,

I'm sure this has been discussed in other posts but I searched and couldn't find anything. Next weekend I'm switching out the extended forward controls on my fxdb for mid controls. Since I don't want to have to take the whole primary off again any time soon I'd like to black out the shifter lever, linkage, and shaft before I install them. Obviously the ideal option is to powder coat but I'm not sure I can convince my wife to let me do that right now so I'm wondering about painting them black. Since they aren't parts that are taking much abuse I'm thinking it should be okay. Any recommendations on primer/paint brands and techniques?

Thanks!
