Default Powdercoat Care Tip

Sorry if this is already out there, but I have read some threads recently about the benefits of paint versus powder coat. What is more durable and so on. I can't speak to that as I have no expertise in either process.

I can say that I've had several pieces on three bikes powder coated satin black and gloss or wet black. My coater has always told me to care for the powder coat as I would care for paint - put a good coat of wax on it and clean it like paint. The satin was virtually maintenance free, very easy to care for. But now I have gloss black parts and they require a little more attention to detail. Every little scratch and rub mark stands out.

I ride a 2012 Ultra Limited and I've had about 80% of the chrome coated black. I recently noticed some fine scratches on the bars in front of the bags, I'm guessing from my wife's jeans. Also on the air cleaner probably where my leg rests against it. Following my coater's advice I tried some Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0 on it and it worked perfectly. I followed the directions on the label, then waxed it after I was done. The Scratch X removed the light scratches and left it perfectly smooth. Very happy with the results.
