Default Stripping paint from rear shocks

Hey guys, long time reader first time poster!

Just picked up a 15 Street Bob that has had the rear shocks painted, poorly. The black is chipping everywhere and the chrome is coming through. My question is, will paint stripper hurt the shocks if I spray these things down? Is there a better method? Thanks in advance.

well. if they were mine, i would uninstall the springs, assuming it is the springs that you want to strip. anywho, if the springs are off, then you are free to do the innards. however, to answer your ?, sure if you paint it on and avoid getting where you do not want. the big ? finding a good stripper.
