Default ColorRite rattle cans, great paint.

I gotta say, this colorrite spray cans lay down a real nice paint job. I got my fender and rear facia finished, and it looks great. Starlight black sparkles in the sun. I sprayed tack coat and 3 base coats and 3 coats of clear. Let dry for a week, then wet sanded with 1500, then 2000. used turtle wax rubbing compound. I need to get some polish counpound, then Maguires swirlx, and in a few weeks I can wax it. I will wait until all the pieces are painted before messing with all the waxes. So far, I got the heat shields painted, and both side covers. Next is the front fender and gas tank. Then I will re-assemble the bike completely. I can then paint the tourpack and lowers. I will have it done in time for spring to ride in the sunshine.

I gotta say, from here that looks really damn good. Those pics in the sunlight really light it up. Nice even coverage, good tone, good depth.

Back in the mid 80's when I was in the Navy, I built a paint shop/garage next to the house and on one side I would paint cars, mostly enamel, but towards the end (got out in 91) I started painting urethanes and basecoat/clearcoat like for my 70 GTO Judge (real). I funded the restoration with my side paint jobs. I replaced both quarters with OEM panels as well as the front fenders, and valances. Painted each panel individually and then sprayed the entire external after all panels installed. Painted a couple of Harleys also. I got pretty good at spraying metallic during that time. It is something you don't forget how to do if you are good at it. Can't wait to roll the bike out in the sun completed.

Wow! Beautiful car. Wow!

You obviously have a talent for that stuff, and I'm sure it's a ton of work, but the people that don't have the talent (me) aren't willing to put the time into it.

If you don't mind me saying, that's really something to be be proud of.

Thanks Crazytown. I have always been a mechanic. I go with the attitude, If I can't figure it out, someone else can. Sad to say that back in 96, I had to sell it to furnish the new house we built. I had a white one, my first one, that I got in Sicily back in 83. Restored that, sold it, bought a 76 trans am, didn't like it as well, then traded it for the yellow one. Back then, we didn't have the internet, we had a box of Car Craft and High Performance Pontiac magazines. Had to dig through them until I found the article on how to replace the vinyl top. LOL. Here is my white one I got while in Sicily, paid $700 for it.

I am about to buy some ColorRite rattle cans to paint a FXDXT fairing. I am torn with how many cans of each I need (Primer, Color and Clear). What do you think since you have experience in their paint?

Here is the fairing for reference. Will I need adhesion promoter spraying over fresh brand new ABS plastic?

They say 1 can per large part each. I went from vivid black to Starlight black so I didn't use any primer. With ColorRite, you get one can of base and one can of clear. If you are going to use light primer (grey) then I would get 2 cans of each and apply a couple extra color coats. If you start noticing a little more orange peel then give it a couple of extra coats of clear also so when you block sand, you have a little extra to prevent burn through. I wet sanded with 1500 and then 2000, and used rubbing compound. I need to get some polish, then Maguires swirl X and finally some wax (after 3 weeks or so)

Oh, and if you are going to do the inside, treat it like another component. I would get at least 2 sets (base and clear)

I will be spraying Brilliant Silver Pearl over primer so not a drastic color difference in primer gray and the base coats of silver.
