Default Paint protection Harley applies on new bikes ??

Anyone well informed on this paint protection they apply to new bikes ? It was already on my bike when I bought it. Finance guy said to not use soap because the chemicals reacting to the protective coat could cause the color of the paint to change.

Service said using soap wouldn't be a problem.

Im meticulous with the cleaning process of my bike but have essentially no info on what is on my bike and what I can or cannot do please help!

When you bought your bike were you charged for their "paint protection"? Just curious. Thanks in advance.

Many dealers offer "add ons" and paint protection would be no exception ... as to the brand, i'm sure that would be up to the dealer

Yeah, lots of possibilities, I hope the OP got his money's worth--assuming there was a charge for the add on.

But the older I get the more cynical and suspicious I get too. After reading the post the first thing it reminded me of was the "old days" when someone bought a new car and made the deal and when getting the invoice with all the info on it the buyer discovers charges for undercoating and fabric protection and when questioned the salesman says something like, "Oh, that, all our deals get undercoating and fabric protection."

If they used the Harley protection it gives you a warranty against paint discoloration, acid rain, water spots, tree sap, bird dropping and other things that can harm your paint. It covers the paint, seat, wheels and other parts. I had it on my ‘18 RGS Hot Rod Red. The paint was a $3k upgrade and the protection was only about $300. The paint looked almost wet after it was applied and very slick. I was told once it was applied and dry I could wash it as normal, I use bike Brite. Check the Harley website there is information about the paint protection and warranty.

The stuff that most dealers use around here they call it a coating. It is not a coating at all, its a sealant. "Coating" is the hot word now and for people that don't know anything about it, the believe it. Many manufactures of paint coatings but you have around 15 or so that are the "Big Players" in the coating game
A true coating would cost way more then $300 to get applied correctly. Hell I have over $200 just in materials when I do one.
Add on wash, decon, polishing, prep and then coating, $$$ add up quick.

When applied correctly, coatings will last a long long time. How long depends on the environment, maintenance, and the quality of the coating

Nothing more then a sealant. Sealants work very well, easy to apply and last longer then wax. I recommend them to customers that don't want to pay for a coating.

You can buy a quality 16oz bottle of sealant for less then $40 and it will last you for a very long time
