Default How to refinish corroded "mag" wheels?

My new-to-me '96 dyna has aluminum wheels that are badly corroded. What are my options for refinishing them?

I was thinking beadblast then either powder coat or use VHT wheel paint.

Any easy way to get the black and silver back on there? Do I have to mask every piece, or is there an easier way?

(I see the rust- new brake lines and hardware coming soon)

Do you want them to look stock again? If so is the black in good shape? If the black is good just clean it up real good and go over the silver with scitch brite pads and it'll look good as new.

If you have to re-finish them I would have them powder coated, Joe the Powder Pro should be chiming in here and if you use him you will not be disapointed. he does amazing work.

The black is faded, but in decent shape, the silver is what's corroded. I didn't think of scotchbrite pads- do you do them wet or dry? The silver is rough to the touch, so I'm sure I have some work cut out for me.

I'd rather screw it up myself, and if it's unrecoverable- then I can do powdercoat.

problem is the cast sections there really is no way to "clean" that up, all the pin holes and rough cast area will trap any type of compound... where is it messed up bud? got any pics that would help

That picture is it- they're just "dirty" I guess. Like they were sitting out in salt air- crusty corrosion. I'll try just scrubbing 'em with I wash it.

I mild acid wash will take that off of there. Something like lemon juice will do it.

I do them wet, simple green works, pretty much any cleaner will work.
