Default Gearing question

I have a 2006 street glide with stock gear 25/36. I'm looking for acceleration. Been told I can drop one tooth on compensater sprocket and add one tooth on clutch basket then I'd have 24/37 gears.

Problem is this option is expensive. The clutch basket is like $330. Comp sprocket is $45. Then 2 hours labor since I don't have all tools to complete job.

My question is: can I just drop 2 teeth on compensator sprocket (to a 23 tooth) to get similar gearing? Would I need a bigger clutch shoe or a smaller chain?

Anyone with some expertise on this subject please chime in!!

You can use a 23 tooth but the only way we have found to get the proper chain tension is to use the pre-2000 chain adjuster and flip it upside down. It's hokey at best.

I've got the 24 tooth comp sprocket and the Baker fat shoe. It will gear it about half without the clutch basket. 3:26 vs 3:31 from the stock 3:15. I haven't installed it yet.

Thanks for quick replies!

24 tooth and fat shoe might be enough for this season. Then if I want more can always save up for clutch basket.

Is compensater and fat shoe an easy install?

One tooth would get you to 3.28:1, 2 teeth will put it at 3.42:1 and with a 16 rear tire and a five speed I would keep it at the 24 tooth compensator and add the 37 basket when affordable putting you at 3.37:1 overall. anything over that might be too much for the road. the 3.37 should put you at about 2700 rpm in 5th at 60 mph and 3300@75mph . You'll like the 3.37:1 have fun man..

It isn't worth changing the clutch IMHO, that is an expense too far! I used a 21T compensator on my TC88 with complete success, although that change may be a bit extreme for your purposes. I doubt if you will notice only one tooth change, whereas even a 23T gives just 25/23 = 109% torque at the rear wheel, in other words a 9% increase. By contrast my 21T gave me a 19% increase in torque, which is very noticeable.......
