Angry 1973 Shovel, Clutch, Trans, Kick start??

I just picked up this 1973 Shovel. It has both electric and kick start. Minimal oil leaks!!!! Question is......
When bike is running in neutral with clutch pulled it will drop into gear. When this happens I am holding front brake so the bike stalls, Has been a time or two it has jumped. What could cause this???

I have removed clutch, it looks great very, very little glaze and the plates are not worn or damaged.

Another thing is that the kick starter seems jammed, it will not turn the engine over? The electric start does. (I removed plugs and tried to kick it also)

The engine starts and runs very well on the electric start.

I would suspect that the detent ball needs to be tightened up to stop the trans from "dropping" into gear. Look for a screw in the top of the tranny that can be turned to tighten up the detent ball/spring. Clutch has problems of some type or it would not stall when it drops into gear with the clutch pulled in.

edit: you are not trying to kick start with the clutch pulled in are you? That will not work.

Ok, I'll check for the detent first thing, I do have a new clutch cable (doubtful) It is a dry clutch with a primary belt. Is the clutch adjustment the same as the wet? I do have a Manuel on this bike, some reason clutch adjustment is not in it.

Thank you for the input...

The shifter clutch/shift fork spacing may not be correct if climbing into gear w/o using the shifter.

This isn't a jockey shift by chance?

No it is not a jockey shift.
What I found was two fold problems. The "dropping" in gear was (is) the main shaft front bearing has worn to the point of jamming up against the counter shaft and lunging the bike into first gear!
The second issue with this is the clutch basket is so scored up (at the first friction) is is causing the clutch to engage when the shafts jam, thus lurching the bike forward. The out side of this basket looks like it was put on a lathe (between the belt drive and starter ring gear. Im guessing that this happen because of all the axel play in the main shaft.

Now the issue is finding all of these parts.....

What do you all think of J&P??

Taking suggestions for a good small parts supplier (mom and pop) love to support the local small business (I am one myself)

I have a buddy and we just put his 79 FXS80 back together after 20+ years. He has an older Jockey Top Four Speed. Won't shift into first and has false neutral issues. What could be the "Jockey Top" problem that was mentioned? I was thinking the shifter fork alignment is the problem. Thanks to all.
