Default Starter pinion gear and clutch shell keep breaking

Hey everyone, I need some help! I have a 2001 Heritage Softail with a SE120R motor. I keep breaking the Starter pinion gear and clutch shell ring. I just replaced everything and went to start it and broke a few teeth off the new clutch shell for the second time. I have ACR's in the bike and they seem to be working. Also have a high torque starter. Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening again I can't keep paying $400 for a new clutch shell? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Check your cranking compression and make sure your ACRs are working properly. Mine only cranks at around 120 to 130 psi with the ACRs actuated. Cranks up to 230 with them unplugged. You should also be able to hear them working when you crank the motor if you remove the exhausts. They vent right at the exhaust opening

I just had the similar problem. Destroyed two starter ring gear and one clutch bearing in my new Rivera Primo clutch before I figured out I had a problem with my ACRs. My Thundermax was not actuating them properly even though they were turned on in the software. The first time around I thought it was just that the clutch bearing was bad. Rivera Primo was great and replaced everything free the first time around but as it turned out the kick back was what trashed the clutch bearing. They only charged me for the ring gear the second time. The high output starter only compounds the problem when the motor does kick back especially on a high compression motor. It's like hitting the ring gear with a sledge hammer. Tearing my primary apart two times in two weeks to clean all the metal savings out of the clutch assembly, Compensator and Stator was a huge PITA

I ended up wiring my ACRs into the starter circuit and the problem is solved. when my thumb is on the starter they are open when I let go they close. No chance of the motor kicking back much like manual releases.
