1990 fxrs selector spring
Hi there,
I am very new to this site and the Harley community. I hope somebody can help. I have a 1990 fxrs with a baker 6 speed transmission. I took it on a ride the other day and when I was shifting it down into 1st I noticed I did not get any return on my shift peg. I naturally quit the ride early and took it home. I have pulled the top cover on the transmission and notice part of the gear selector spring had sheared off not allowing the gear selector pawl to return to position when you are done shifting into gear. I have done a lot of research and just purchased a maintenance book to repair this. My question is there any videos out there with this exact problem or if not does anyone have any idea of the steps to go about doing this (torqe values, seals to replace, parts to take off, etc). I would appreciate any information someone has to offer. I got the Harley book but as it is a aftermarket transmission I am not sure if I need another book instead. Once again thank you all for any help on this issue and ride safe.

I would highly advise using one of our shifter pawls part number 555-56C-A as the stock shifter pawls had a bad habit of braking that spring.
Thanks
Mark
