Default Trans Oil return line on '06 FLHT

I am working on my '06 FLHT TC88 with 5speed transmission. I have a leak at these two 90* hoses under the clutch cable cover. I ordered new hoses, the parts manual shows them to be the same hoses. When I pulled the cover the bottom hose is actually 3 parts with what looks like a vent line tied in the middle. Should I replace it with the 90* hose or reinstall the vent?

You need the vent.

Mark, thanks so much for the reply. I trust your expertise. My parts book shows both top and bottom hoses being identical, do you know when the vent was added? I thought the transmission had a vent to the primary on the top side. Any info is greatly appreciated!

That vent was added by the previous owner; why, I couldn't say. The OEM vent is on the primary side; a 90* elbow in the trans upper cover connected to a vent hose. If the OEM vent is there, I see no need for the added vent in the picture. I run an all bore 107" motor (110HP/124TQ) in my old '02 FLHT with the two hoses per the parts manual and the OEM trans vent.

Turns out it wasn't a vent at all! It's where the oil temp sensor is tied in.

I would replace the lower hose with the OEM part and relocate the oil temp sensor to the stock location in the front of the oil pan.
