Default Transmission Drive Sprocket

Need advise to re-install the drive sprocket on the transmission shaft. I removed it easy enough. When I slip the new sprocket on it comes to a stop. I am not sure if I should try tapping it on, heat it or what. I don't want to cause any internal damage.

Thanks,
Ed

It would help to know what model year you are working on. The first thing I would be doing would be to examine both pulleys to make sure that you have the right part.
