Help with starter ring gear

Default Help with starter ring gear
Thought they would send a paper with the starter ring gear .it's going on a 1975 xlch stock clutch drum. There is a chamfered side and flat side. Does the flat side go toward the chain side or the case side. Thinking it goes toward the chain side.
