Default 89 electroglyde clutch inop

Driving home I noticed that the clutch cable outer housing broke. I replaced the cable but when I tried to engaged the clutch, it did not budge. I put a pry bar over the push rod on the right side of the case and it did not go in. THe book is not clear about how the push rod works through the transmission. Could the clutch be frozen on the left side of the transmission?

Make sure the ramp and ball set up is oriented correctly.

Adjust clutch first, then adjust cable.

The ball and ramp mechanism on the right side pushes the pushrod toward the left to disengage the clutch.

Default 89 electroglyde Clutch cable broken

Dan, I believe what you are telling me is correct and I will double check.... Yesterday I put a pry bar on the push rod and it didn't go in at all. Could the clutch be frozen?

Thanks to Dan and Shadowchrome for explaining how the pushrod moves the clutch plates on the left side of the transmission. It turns out that I removed the clutch cover and found that the clutch shell is hanging low. At this point I'm thinking it's the bearing behind the clutch shell. Big job coming up for me on the Hog.

It is not the clutch hub bearing, that bearing has nothing to do with how the clutch engages and disengages.

Put the pry bar away.

Have you removed the derby cover from the outer primary cover and looked at the clutch? Have you adjusted the clutch (not just the cable)?
