Found a small stone in belt, how serious?
Hi all,
Did some maintenance and cleaning yesterday and I found a small stone embedded in the belt, (strangely it was embedded on the outside).
I got it out, and it had left a small hole in the belt - possibly 5-6mm wide across the belt, cross section between two peaks.
My question is should I change the belt? Or are they pretty tough.
Bike is on 8500 km ( about 6500miles).
Thanks

I had a sharp flint jam in my belt, on the inside, although it cut through to the exterior and left a wound. I removed the stone and rode for a few thousand miles like that. The owners manual says something along the lines that damage in the central region of the belt is fine, but close to the edge is of greater concern. I only changed the belt once the wound began to show stress, also I had a long tour planned.
If you are riding mostly fairly locally then by all means carry on, but keep a close eye on the wound. If it shows any signs of changing in appearance, or getting larger, then you know what to do!
