Default Anyone identify this plug?

This plug in the engine case is leaking oil pretty bad.

It's small black rubber plug

Anyone know what this is and how I can fix it?

In the picture you can see it just above the oil line on the case cover. It's a black dot.

Right next to the bolt in the case is a little black rubber plug

First we must identify the year and model...right?

Well, it's obviously on the gearcase but the service manual I'm looking at doesn't say anything about a small rubber plug down there. Could a previous owner put it in due to punching a hole in the case by accident? Here's the link to the manual

I'm beginning to think that there was a hole or crack that was drilled and a rubber plug was used because I've scoured the manual with no mention of it.
If that is the case what would be the best remedy...

Tap it and put a bolt and gasket?

Take it off and weld it?

Any ideas?

The options can be many but the first and best one is to replace the case. I know this isn't what you would like to hear but whatever caused that hole wasn't suppose to. At a minimum I would pull the case and see what the inside looks like. If you have a good indy shop around, take it to them and see what they say. Might be able to "plug" it with a more permanent solution. Nice thing is, it's not under a lot of pressure. Does it leak a lot or just drip out?

When it is running it leaks a lot. Probably a drop every 5 seconds

Take it off and have it welded or replace it.

Seal it, it's not suppose to be there. Does the drain plug come out? Maybe it was put there because the drain plug was/is stripped?
