Default First time chain breaker use

Hi peeps,

Am about to buy a chain breaker/riveter tool, never used one before, but I need to remove a link from a chain.

Other than the tool, is there anything else I need to buy? Pins/rivets for example?

Tally Ho!

New/spare master link, but not really needed if you plan on using the old one. Technically, your not supposed to re-use the master link clip but I have never had an issue unless it gets bent upon removal.

Are you removing the link because it has stretched? Check it for wear and slop. Now is a good time to clean it and re-lube. YD

It's always been long, but I used a slop wheel to control it. I am now fitting a sprokster sprotor and the calliper can't sit that far back in the triangle of the swinging arm otherwise it will foul the swing arms substantial webbing. So I need to take up the slack, I can pul the chain up the cog by a link easily, I may be able to pull it up another link. I need to have the axel as far forward in the slot as I can really to give be scope for adjustment.

Wink

Plenty of stuff on the 'net on shortening a chain, such as here. You should be able to do what you describe with just the tool, which should come with instructions!
