Default Rough primary chain

Weird spot on the shoe. I could feel a rough spot on the chain. Not awful. Tires are off, so I didn't rotate. I could pull plugs and put wrench on comp nut, but haven't yet.

Not sure how long it has been there. You can't see it. I bought a new pad today because I was paranoid. But I think this is the same wear it has always had.

Pic from 35k doesn't show the funny spot that I can see, and I don't remember. 70k now.

Could the rough spot be from when I locked the chain with a piece plastic, rather then locking sprocket to sprocket, for removal, 35k miles ago?

Not sure if I should wory about this or not. I could just put the new shoe in. What sucks I can't see it with out taking outer primary off again.

I have always had some shavings on drain plug.

If I replace chain, do I need to replace comp nut and sprocket on clutch, to match wear?

Not saying anything about the condition of your chain or sprockets, but that rotating mass didn't cause the unique spot on the shoe

I agree on that mark not caused by chain, looks to be more of a defect in the material of the pad. If it was the chain it would follow the length of the whole pad.

Was late at night looking at this. I got in bed, and realized, the rough spot was on the sprocket side, not shoe.
Something scrathing it would be long marks. Something melting it would be flowing or warped marks.

I am just going to put the new shoe in and open it up again, maybe ths winter. Check the pad for anything huge before then. Sucks you can't see much with the chain on. Would be nice if the hole was bigger. By not make it big enough to change pad, though it gets changed rarely.

I have been planning for years to put a new belt on based on mileage, I happen to have another stator too. Add this all to the winter list, that I should do.

How often do you really see the pad? Unless you are pulling clutch or outer primary, you can't see much of it.

You could completely loosen the change and hold it up to see, might need a mirror. But who does that?
