Default Spongy shifting.

Yesterday I noticed an issue when shifting and your input would be helpful.

Occasionally as I shift up (heel toe shifter on my Deluxe) the bike wouldnt shift and the pedal was spongy. I release the clutch and do it again and all seemed normal. After I realized that it wasn't my imagination, and I begin paying more attention, it's seem to occur between third and fourth gears. It was only happening yesterday while shifting up.

Is this a "take it to the mechanic ASAP or am I making to much out of this?

Thanks to all you mechanical geniuses in advance.

Check the linkage and make sure all connection points are secure.

Inspect the shift lever at the transmission, make sure it is not loose.

I would think that maybe the clutch was dragging a little on you for some odd reason or binding up somewhere , after everything has cooled down take it out for a ride and see what happens , I would not rush off to a shop just yet

Great! Thanks for your input, Mark. I'm looking up some "how-to's" now.

You want to make sure the long rod going from the foot controls to the shift lever on the transmission is free and parallel to the bike. You don't want it on an angle or binding.

Also the shift lever on the transmission needs to be tight no slop. They are cast levers and the splines will wear as time goes on. If it is loose, remove the bolt, clean it, apply fresh blue loctite and re-torque it.

If the lever becomes lose again after that it's time to replace it.

OK, thanks! I mean it. Those are very clear instructions. Since it finally quit raining, I will do that this evening. I may have more questions related to it....
