Default loose transmision sprocket. Normal to wobble?

A little history before I get to the current problem. Had a bad mainshaft seal. The large one on side of transmission case. I also replaced the small 5th gear seal behind the race while in the primary. After a short time I had another leak, and it's the 5th gear seal. I'm not sure what I did wrong to make this seal leak that wasn't leaking before.

Another item that has me concerned is that I noticed the transmission sprocket wobbles on the shaft. I haven't dissembled yet for further inspection. Maybe I did something wrong and it wasn't tightened or seated properly. Still doesn't explain my seal leaking, but now I have two issues to resolve. Any ideas?

If your pulley is loose, you can have a leak.. Been there..

I wasn't sure about that, but I guess a wobbling pulley can put stress on the seals. Sounds like the splines are worn. Unless for some reason I didn't get it seated and torqued properly. I'll find out later today when I get back to working on it.

Replace the pulley spacer while you are in there.

When I had it apart before the spacer looked cherry. In fact, think I even measured the thickness. Couldn't find any sign of wear? At this point I'll error on the side of caution and replace it.

Thanks!

The seal will groove them.

if the splines on the pulley or the main gear are worn, you will have a leak that will not stop until either or both are replaced. been there done that.

Pulled the sprocket off this morning and the nut was loose. I tightened it per the book 60ft lbs and 45°, so I'm not sure why it came loose. The splines look fine to me. I retightened the sprocket, and the wobble was much improved. Just a very slight movement. Is it supposed to be rock solid with zero movement? Wondering if I need a new sprocket?

it needs to be "rock solid". if it's not the pulley spacer will move which will make the quad seal and or the spacer seal leak. give the splines on the main gear the fingernail test, if you can feel any steps on the splines the main gear will have to be replaced.

Bad bearing can ruin seal and let sprocket wobble. did you check for free play?
