Shifts without pulling the lever? Normal?
Hi, new here and new to working on my 12 switchback fld, I put 16" bars on and now in trying to get the clutch right, and for some reason I just happened to downshift without pulling the lever in, I've pulled the primary cover of and when I do pull the lever in it does disengage. My ? Is have I done something wrong or could it have always been this way and I didn't notice it? So in short, is my bike suppose to be able to shift without pulling the clutch lever in?? Thanks

Do you mean able to shift into gear while not running or while running? When not running, the gear shifter can be put into gear without pulling the clutch in. When running, you could technically shift without the clutch if you were to be at the right speed for the shift (although not advisable).

You were lucky that the gears inside the trans were aligned just right. Nothing to worry about! If you sit on your bike and change gear, especially if you rock the bike back and forth a little, you can probably work your way through all the gears and back again. Just be sure to engage neutral or hold the clutch in if you start the engine!
