Pretty sure my compensator is going out. 71,000± on my 2009 FLHT - Electraglide Standard. I've been reading other posts folks who've had issues with their compensators. Mine are are a banging sound when starting. When cold, the second, or just as it starts a loud bang, when cold and where it is embarrasing it won't even start, starter engages, bike fires and then 'bucks' and I have to wait a minute or two and try again. Replacement is not problem, I have the service manual and the tools and can follow directions. My issue is finding compensator. I've tried various mail order places without luck. Don't feel like giving HD money for a part that shouldn't go out. I also found a 'replacement' at JP Cycle http://www.jpcycles.com/product/753-882 that doesn't have the spring - thoughts?

Where have others 'mail-ordered' compensator assemblies?

I thought about that. I'm not a hard rider, in fact I can never figure out why everyone is always in such a hurry... That aside, I hate the idea of giving HD more money because they engineered something with dollars in mind than reliability. Which is why if I could find another manufacturer I'd probably go with them even if it cost a bit more.
