Default clutch interlock switch question

[align=left]My 2006 Softail does not have one. My 2007 has one in the clutch lever. What is it and what does it do?

Default RE: clutch interlock switch question

The clutch intetrlock switch prevents the bike from being started in gear without the clutch pulled in. It will only start in neutral without the clutch in.

on an 07 Road king if I have them completely disconnected would that cause me pulling on the clutch cable to have no affect at all?
For question number two; I have a clutch interlock switch on both handlebars. I never even knew they were there. On my new switch housings, only the right side housing has a place for it. The left hand side does not. Can I get by with only 1?
I've had my bike for 13,000 miles now and I've never had to physically push this button. Can I get by with just pushing that switch inside the housing with no way to access it without taking my housing apart? Or would I be totally screwed at some point. I can drill into it. But I don't have a drill where I am and I definitely don't want to buy one. I spending as much money on tools as I am this project.
thanks for any help?

I have a 2007 Ultra Classic and I realized I have a clutch switch today when I was about to change my switch housings.. Earlier today i thought my bike was in neutral, and it lunged forward !! So clearly the switch isnt hooked up, or it does NOTHING ! Does it matter ??? I dont think I need it
