I've adjusted the belt on my RK Classic per HD service manual with rear wheel in the air at tightest portion of the belt. Once on the jiffy stand, however, it's showing that it's a little tight, slightly less then 1/4" deflection @ 10 lb, which is tighter than HD spec. Is there any harm in running the belt slightly tighter than spec? I'm heading out on a 1500 mile ride next week and would like to know. I rode for a while yesterday and didn't notice any heat buildup on the belt that would indicate a friction problem. Thanks in advance.

 

Sounds fine to me..how many miles on the bike already?? those belts after the first 1000 miles rarely need adjusting..and if it did, i,d be checking for loose axle adjusters etc.

 

Thanks trpl8. I've got about 23,000 miles on it. Last service was 20,000.

 

That belt wont move now unless something else changes..even on a 95"er..
