Primary Gasket Change Necessary?

Time for my 10,000 mile service. I read all the post I could think of but what about the gasket? If you add the primary oil through the clutch inspection plate do you have to change the gasket? Nice to know before I start the job.

NO. It's a rubber o-ring. The primary chain inspection cover gasket is another thing. You can usually get ny with good silicone sealer, but I'd recommend a new gasket at least every other time you pull it off.

For your 06 it's not a rubber o-ring. It's a disc. #25416-99C It is easier to add fluid on your scoot through the chain inspection cover, but at 10k service you will want to do a clutch adjustment also so you can stick to filling it through the derby cover. Cheap insurance to change the gasket, don't cost much.

I bought a new Derby cover gasket anda primary chain inspection cover gasket before I did my 5000 mile service about 7 months ago and didn't use either one. The old ones looked good so I decided to reuse them and haven't had any problem with either one leaking. I willchange themwhen I dothe 10K service. :D

The gaskets cost ~$10 or so. Could I have re-used the old ones? Sure, but since I had new gaskets I used them. The next time I think I'll also change to O-ring on the drain plug.

BTW, I put Rotella T syn in the primary. Based on other threads here (and independent lab results posted online) I'm thinking it is better to have a high detergentoil that cleans the moving parts than other oils that look brand new after 5000 miles but leave the grime inside the engine.
