How often should you change your drive belt??? What kind of mileage can you expect out of it before replacement??

Check it freequently for cracks and stones.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;A stone puncture in the middle of the belt is not too serious.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;A puncture that cuts the edge of the belt should cause you to replace the belt.&nbsp\\; Barring a tear/puncture near the edge of the belt, or other obvious problems, the belt should last 60 to 100 thousand miles.

+1 on the 60-100,000 miles. It does depend on your riding though, just a bit.

+1 Yup, what they all said.

Those new belts are tuff stuff. Course, if you ride on gravel roads alot and dusty situations it could shorten the life a bit.

I am so proud of myself. I was down around Four Corners Utah a few months ago, and so I see this road called, "Valley of the Gods Road"...its dirt...gravel...oh, and the Monuments...I had to go ride it. 17 miles of dirt and Dust. Worth every minute...yes I'd do it again if it were gonna be the first time. But Damn, my Ultra was so freaking dirty when I got done...I was awful proud of that dirt.

Another time I was in Trout Lake Washington, looking at a 5 hour ride back to my home. That was if I wanted to go back to the freeways and all that...but instead I picked to go up over Forest Road #25...goes up over the mountains past Mt Adams...a phenomenally beautiful 15 miles of washboard and gravel and dust...my wife was sooo pissed and I don't' blame here because she took the brunt of the bumps on the back of the Ultra...But yes I'd do it again....it saved me three hours (her too) of riding at night, and we got to do it on a Harley...

Problem not that I have just over 50,000 miles, (my drivebelt looks fine by the way) both Sprockets look like they need replacing.)

A belt and set of gaskets might only be maybe $250.00 BUT Sprockets, and Belt and Gastkets will run you over $600...Plus Labor if you don't want to do it yourself...

Its not just how many miles you have on it but how old it is. I replaced mine at 80k to be on the safe side and figured I am good till 160K. Just like my rear wheel bearings. Being I have a Harley sidecar on mine the last time I replace the rear wheel bearings at 90K why because I am good till 180K.

There is no simple answer to that question. You will see some owners who have had belts break and others go round the World! They can last 100k miles possibly longer, but generally a long time. I guess the majority of owners never replace a belt and most of those who do see either damage or signs of cracking. The only belt I have had to change was due to stone damage, but the belt was fine for 4k miles afterwards, before I saw the wound changing shape.

That is right there is no easy answer it really depends on how you ride and I think now more importantly how much gravel road riding you do. I have 50,000 miles on my FLH and right now and I'm in the process of changing the belt. I probably changed it premature but I really don't know how far they'll go and I am prepping for a trip from Seattle to Daytona Beach in March. premature but I know I won't be broken down in El Paso.

No easy answer is right!... It's up in the Air! It's more fun to talk about how you can blow a belt off! ha
