Default how often do your REALLY need clutch adj?

i have adjusted my clutch every 5000 miles on both of my bikes. i am beginning to think its a waste to do it so often. nothing seems to move. the clutch plate adjustment shouldnt really change unless/until you have some significant wear on the plates should it? and i have found that my clutch cable stretches some when its new be after a while it doesnt seem to change. basically, it seems that as long as you keep an eye on your clutch cable play at the lever, and nothing else seems wrong it seems like you could forget about adjusting the plates for 10 or 15 thousand miles. i would be interested in any comments. thanks]\

i probably haven't adjusted mine in 5 years. the last time i had my primary apart i had to adjust it when i put it back together. if it's working how you like it leave it alone.

Without regard to mileage, I only mess with it when it feels / acts like it needs adjustment.

Did my first clutch adjustment on my SuperGlide at 30k just because I was feeling guilty. 22k on the EG now and still no indication it needs it. If it feels good, leave it alone.

Can you take up a little play with the adjuster in the cable or do you have to remove the Derby cover just to take up some lever slack???

You get more or less lever slack by adjusting the cable adjuster.

I adjust mine when I change the primary fluid (10,000) miles, but it seems to end up where it was when I started. I guess it's a piece of mind thing for me, derby cover is off to fill the oil, another couple minutes to check & adjust the clutch isn't much.
