clutch adjustment xlh,89 sporty

Help please. The bike was stood for 3 months over winter and worked ok for 5 miles. However, the clutch lever needed to be pulled in closer to the bar each time i changed gear after this until the clutch would not pull free at all.I have since adjusted it, as per manual, inspected cable, removed primary case and inspected the release mech/ adjuster threads etc...all seems ok.Do the springs/ plates tend to stick together when it,s been stood for a while?I noticed a little "end float" on the clutch basket (1/16TH"maybe) with chain tension slack.I am going to remove the clutch when i can make or source a spring compressor, but i willing to take any advice you can give me.Many thanks.Pete.uk

sounds like the clutch bucket retaining nut is backing off. you will need to remove the spring and the clutch plates to get to it and remember it is reverse thread. if it is still tighand the bucket is secure then check the clutch cable itself. it could be pulling apart..........

Many thanks.I think the cable is OK.I checked both ends before posting. But the float on the clutch basket could well be caused by a lose nut.See follow up when i get the clutch apart.Again many thanks.pete.uk
