Default WLC tranny question

I need help with the fitting of the clutch hub to the countershaft of my 1943 WLC.The hub goes on to the splined shaft but I can onll get it on so far.It seems fully home when the hub outer face is still 3/32nd" from reaching the actual splines on the shaft. Its been apart for ever & I thought it might be surface rust or either of the splines might have been slightly damaged but I've cleaned them up & I think they're O.K.What I want to know is this:should the shaft project beyond the outer face of the clutch hub or not & what might the distance either way be.I don't have the lockwasher yet.Anyone have the answer or can you point me towards someone who is familiar with them or who is working on one right now.Riding days are getting closer! Thanks in anticipation.Dave.
