At 1,800 miles I noticed a banging/rattling noise coming from the primary case. At trip #1 to the dealer, they confirmed the noise and replaced the Synthetic oil installed at the 1,000 mile servie with Formula +, and said to try it. At visit #2 the dealer replace the compensator and rotor. At visit #3 the dealer adjusted the automatic chain tensioner. The noise is VERY loud when the engine is cold and does dissipate substantially at full operating temperature. The dealer acknowledged that there have been problems with this on other Ultra Limiteds.

When you say replaced compensator, was it with the SE compensator or another stock one?

 

They never said anything about an SE compensator, so I guess it's an OEM replacement.

Is there something different with the SE compensator? Is there an HD bulletin on it?

 

It's much, much better and several have changed out to cure the noisy banging, etc. Myself included. Do a search here on the forum and you will see all the folks and the pictures of the differences.
