5th Gear Mainshaft Seal - How To Remove?
I'm trying to remove/replace the 5th gear seal in the tranny mainshaft in the primary with the shaft in place, in a '04 FXDP with TC88.
Can anyone describe how you've managed to remove that seal with the shaft in place without damaging the inner/outer seal surfaces?
Sure appreciate any suggestions that have been successful in past.

The fifth gear seal is inside fifth gear (main drive gear) not in the mainshaft, and certainly not in the primary.
It is the seal between the tranny mainshaft, and the 5th gear mainshaft.
Get a couple of small sheet metal screws, thread them into the seal and pull it out with pliers.

I understood the question. I'm looking for the same thing, but a little more detail. I know it's there somewhere. I can see the fluid leaking from it, but can't get to it, or find it I should say.

I have used a straightened paper clip with a hook bent on the end to remove a couple of them. BTW, I found that at least some aftermarket seals (Cometic for one) are narrower on the OD than the HD seal. PITA to put one back together and find a leak...An old Indy advised me a long time ago to use nothing but the Harley seals and gaskets, now I do after a couple of redos.
