LeNale cooling fan

LeNale cooling fan
Just about a year and a half a go I ordered one of lenale,s cooling fans. I wanted to see if it would do any cooling sitting in traffic and really just wanted to play with.
The project did not go well , in a short time the fan caught fire and that was the end of it.
The vendor i ordered it from refuse to warranty it.
THEN about 2 weeks ago on another forum it seems LENALE notice a thread about this issue.
They contacted me and sent out a new 2010 version of the fan no question ask. They offered a refund but I requested replacement.
The replacement they sent me puts out twice the air of the one I had. It seems fan may have been defective from the start.
I want to thank LeNale for making good on the product. I will this summer post a new review of how the product function.
very few would have taken the time to search me out and make good on a product that had failed.
My interest in the product has been renewed and I look forward to putting it to the test this summer.

Lenale Cooling Fan
I put one on my 08 Softail Custom this summer and put it through its paces in Washington DC Beltway traffic. I would put forth that this is some the harshest driving environments in the US for air cooled engines. Temps in the 90s with 90+ humidity in 20 miles of stop and go traffic with no wind to cool the engine.
I put a T-Max on the bike to help cool it....it worked until I got into the windless stop and go...then the engine temp would climb to 350 and I would have to pull over.
I installed the fan and never saw the engine light again. I turn it on when I see the traffic backing up...and turn it off when I hit open road.
To see how "effective" the fan is...I put my laptop onto the bike (TMax) let it idle up to about 290 degress...then I turned on the fan....I saw the temp drop 20 degress in about 2 minutes. So it DOES cool the engine. I have had NO problems with mine duringthe summer and would recommend this for ALL Harleys.

This is an interesting topic...cooling systems on Big Twins. I have a 2008 SG and I was considering the Ultra Cool oil cooler as opposed to a Cooling fan. The HD fan is very bulky and way over priced. Of course so is the Ultra Cool Oil Cooler product. I have been very skeptical of oil coolers because I believe an oil cooler only works if your passing cool air through it. In stop and go heavy traffic, there is no air passing through it so how can it cool??? I asked a friend of mine who is what I consider to be a very good Harley Indy mechanic and he educated me on this. He said even if its 100 deg outside and your passing 100 deg air through an oil cooling system, its still cooler air than the temp. being generated by the engine. OK, I get that but what happens when you sit in dead stop traffic, which is a common thing here in the Los Angeles area. I guess this is where a fan comes into play. Anyone out there running both a Le Nale fan and a Ultra Cool oil cooler??

Oil cooler fans are for the most part worthless. The simple low cost fans from big sky will do about all you are going to get from cooling oil. HD's Do not have oil cooled heads except for one.
The Lenale fan works I have had one sense 2007
Lenale fan temps The noted temps are direct head temps from the sensor that the ECM reads
No Harley was hurt in this test. Photos of temp displayed

Out side air was about 70 degrees
103 with lowers open
SYN 20/50 oil
Temp management off
No natural air flow
Started bike allowed to idle
At 261 turned on Fan
40 seconds dropped to 255
90seconds 239
120 seconds 225
at this point the drop slowed a bit
3 minutes 219
5 minutes holding 219 @ same 1000 rpms
7 minutes raised to 221
10 minutes 221 1000 rpms holding

1 minute 248 climbing steady
1 minute 30 262
2 minutes 266
3 minutes 277
3minutes 20 280
4 minutes 293
FAN on drops of 1 degree per second or so
2 minutes 260
3 minutes 248
4 minutes slowed to 237
FAN off allowed to come to 331
Fan on
Fast drop
1 minute 289
came back down to 228
