Blue Ridge GA. Forest Service Roads

It really depends on the road and the last time Forestry graded the road, how much rain and traffic the road has had. a road that is good right now may be crap in April. (I don't think there is any schedule for the grading, they just seem to do it once the road is almost impassable) I drive the roads often in a jeep and for the most part there are not too many I would want to go more than a half mile or two on a large street bike, you will see a lot of trail bikes there.
Most are loose gravel that has been packed down by travel

I don't know anything about the Forest Service Roads, but that area has some great riding on the regular roads and highways. As far as great riding areas go, I think northern GA is one of the best kept secrets. Head down Rte 60 about 30 miles to Suches & check out Wolf Pen Gap Rd (Rte 180). Have fun & ride safe.

I lived in that general area for 14 years. My advice is to absolutely avoid renting any cabin/home that does not have paved drive. There are plenty available, so don't settle for any place that does not have all paved road right to the rental. It could ruin your entire experience of enjoying some of the greatest riding in the country!

We rented a house up in the mountains on a gravel drive about 1/2 mile straight up two track all washed out.First night there it was dark and created a real pucker. The next morning and the rest of the trip not to bad just have to be careful and make no mistakes.Beautiful place.www.smokeymountaincabins.com

Good decision. I have ridden a lot of gravel Forest Service roads in Arkansas, Montana, Northern California, and Tennessee on a Sporty and I can tell you from experience Gravel and Grade (steep Mountain roads) combined can be very risky. Very nearly lost.... well, all my assets, anyway the things most important to me, on Ship Mountain last year. Older and wiser now. Forest Service Gravel can take you to some wonderful places IF you are familiar with the territory. But unfamiliar gravel roads can be a disaster.
