Alot has been mentioned of the places to see. I'm wondering if there is a good order to put them in? I usually like to start far and work my way back.

do it however you want. my only suggestion would be this, if you do the wild life loop in custer park, do it in a clock wise direction. you'll be making right turns instead of waiting forever to make left-handers.

The mammoth dig is just about as far south as you get. It is in Hot Springs. THe only thing I think that is farther is the wild horse sanctuary. Then you work your way back north. problem is that there is so much and it takes a couple hours to get that far south that you won't hit it all in a day. Basically plan one destination and leave yourself extra hours to get there and back so that you have time to just hit the brakes for cool stuff along the way. We go out there a lot and have found that this is the most fun as you really get some memorable spur of the moment opportunities.

There's a lot of great riding, great scenery, great people and way too many things to see do and experience on the first trip.

It Depends on your starting point as to the order of routes.
Our starting point is Spearfish.

Day one
Sturgis, Dead wood, Spearfish canyon.

Day Two
We do Iron mountain road the wildlife loop then on to needles hwy in one day. You could fit in Rushmore also. It would make a long day.

Day Three
Devils Tower, Hulett Wy. Stone House or Sundance.

Day Four
Keystone, Custer, Hill city and Crazy Horse. Going through Spearfish canyon at least once that day. Usually both ways.

Days 5 6 7 are more of the same. We just use these days for going back to the spots we would like to spend more time at.

This year we are spending Three nights in Cody before going to Sturgis.

Oh yea don't forget Nemo. Also the Prairie Berry Winery in Hill city is a good stop. (wine tasting and they ship bottles home for you)
