Sorry, folks, might be getting a little carried away with the picts. Just got back home yesterday and I am already planning a trip for this August. Definitely one of my 3 favorite places on this continent In The SUMMER! Went one time in January, stayed a week and saw the sun for a total of 15 minutes in seven days.

I'd suggest skipping hwy 6 or 26, go up 30 to Astoria and then down the coast highway.
Took Hwy 4 on the Washington side, would suggest that now in lieu of Hwy 30.

Columbia Gorge near Multnoma Falls

Oh Yes, I have more picts, hundreds probably. Just want to be careful I don't offer bigwave916 more than what he is interested in.

Lots of folks want to ride the Columbia Gorge, and it Is very pretty, but I personally prefer the coast. Traffic along the Gorge is often very heavy and I just think the Pacific Coast is more spectacular. If you have time to ride everything, by all means do, but if you have to prioritize I recommend Pacific Coast, then Crater Lake, then the Gorge. Here is a pict of the Gorge near Multnoma Falls just to offer credentials for my opinion.

Crater Lake. Beautiful, but take it easy first time around. Road Heaves can put some serious air between your butt and the saddle if you get too carried away with the throttle. Ask me how I know.

Mt. Hood. Very nice ride, but my lowest priority for a return trip. I just think the Rockies (Beartooth, Chief Joseph, etc.) are more spectacular and less commercialized. Nice lodge and good skiing if you are in to that.
