GPS tracking app?

Leaving on a cross country trip in a few weeks. Looking to see if anyone can recommend a decent gps tracking app for my iPhone so those at home can check on my whereabouts during my ride. If it also follows the route so I can check it out when I get home that would be cool too. Thanks in advance

If you have an iPad or Mac at home use find my iPhone. Updates every few minutes and pretty accurate, the wife looks at it when I'm out riding without her.

I use the "Find Friends" app on the iPhone. I travel solo a lot, and my wife can make sure I'm still moving if I haven't checked in for a while. Gives both of us peace of mind. (Just make sure to disable it before you stop at the titty bar!)

Spotwalla.com

Works with smartphone apps as well as other GPS tracking devices, like Spot trackers. I use a free app called Bubbler gps on my phone to have my phone send the pings to the website.

It's pretty straightforward to create a trip in Spotwalla, define the timeframe and any other details you like, generate a shareable URL, and then just make sure your phone is running the app while travelling to show your progress in real time.

My wife likes to make sure I'm ok and moving when I'm on a solo run across time zones--perfect for those kind of things.

Here's a link to one of our trips last summer, so you can see the end result: https://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php...c5529577429fd4

I've also had several different direct communications with the creator of Spotwalla, and can say that if you ever have an issue, it will be resolved professionally--first, he's a motorcycle guy, he's also really nice guy, and great at his work.

All the best,

Shane

I use an app that sends my location to whomever I choose. I use it when I'm meeting someone and to let my wife know when I'll be home. It's probably not exactly what you want as it only runs for up to 4 hrs at a time (you choose the time period). You can restart it though.
You can just send your location, or you can enter your destination and it will give an ETA to your contact. It's dynamic and updates every couple of seconds.
Your contact does not need to have the app to receive your 'glympse'.

It's free :icon_banana:

It looks like the OP has two threads. I posted the same app in his other one. LOL.

Glympse is AMAZING!

Figured I would expand my audience... Looks like Glympse is the ticket. Thanks for the replies

what good does 4 hours do?
what happens when you forget to restart it?

It does plenty of good. There may be some not-so-tech savy folks that would have trouble with it. But, most of us stop for gas at least once every four hours. And, you don't have to restart it, so to speak - it's running in the background, constantly updating your location, speed, direction of travel, etc. When you stop for gas, just take the 20 seconds to move the slider.

This is also a safety net. You don't have to worry about somebody tracking your comings and goings forever. After four hours, the app shhuts off unless you choose to extend it.

The recipient gets a link (whether you send it via text message, email, social media, etc), and they can view it on a web browser, or if they have the app, the map opens within the app. Either way, they get real-time data.

This is a screenshot of my OL on her way home right now.

I think this app is exactly what I'm looking for minus the having to reset it every four hours. Which really isn't the end of the world
