The Journeys of Darla ....

So.... I am formulating a plan for next summer. I have not yet been to Sturgis, and how better to do it than take the Panhead. But, I am not the trailer queen type (well, not yet anyway). So... I am seriously considering riding her from home to there. I figure on four 5 hour days there and return with a week there, on as many old roads as possible ..... And it would be an old school type ride, camping, eating out of pots, no windshield, 50 mph, a stop every hour..... I will have to make a few mods such as floor boards as my legs are not long enough for the forward pegs & the exhaust to make them fit. ... but it does sound like an Adventure, doesn’t it?

Third From The Right....
....is Stan. I first met him last year when I got my '09. I had chatted with him a bit before, but our friendship began then. Stan gathered most Sundays at a local coffee shop and when I started riding my Glide, we chatted more and more. He was a Harley Man, through and through. He had an extra seat and lent it to me for a bit to see if it would fit me well. I used it last year for a bit until I got my own. I gave him mine when I got the new one as it was pretty nice of him to lend it to me for a couple of months.
We went for a ride up to the Crowsnest Pass last year for a coffee and cinnamon bun at one of his favorite spots. That is the picture, and Stan is on the end to the left. He gave me a hell of compliment later. Said he would ride with me anywhere, that he did not trust many to ride with him, but I was welcome anytime to ride "at his 4".
About a month ago, I was riding the Pan around, ..... he had yet to see it, and saw me riding around town so followed me back to work and we had a good chat about it and other things.
It was the last time I talked to him. He passed this last week. My memory of him will always be of him and and me talking about the Pan.
...Stan, forever in the wind.... Ride my friend.....
