Default Duluth/Superior/Grand Marias/Thunder Bay

We are planning a fall road trip(Sturgis Week) from eastern South Dakota to Duluth/Superior,Grand Marias and Thunder Bay area. We will be out about 5 days. I'm looking for sugestions on places to see, good places to eat, lodging and any good watering holes in those areas.

Hi Dynadog, I'm up in N East SD myself...100 south of Fargo...anyway, Aerostich in Duluth is a must stop for any brand of rider...crammed to the rafters with bike stuff!
Sven and Ole's Pizza in Grand Marias was a pretty good pizzeria the last time we were there...a few years ago now....Broadway and Wisconsin the brochure says. Enjoy the trip!

Gooseberry Falls is a good stop and with a short hike you can view some great scenery. The lift bridge at Canal Park is cool especially if you get to see a Lakes Freighter pass under it. The Duluth news usually posts the times in the Shipping News section. The Skyline Drive along the bluff overlooking the Duluth harbor and Superior. is worth spending the time to stop at the overlooks to take pics.

"Old highway 61" runs north of Duluth to Two Harbors along the lake, The city of Two Harbors has a campground on the Lake we like to go to when we're in the area. Almost forgot Split Rock Lighthouse.

Kakabeka Falls just west of Thunder Bay is kinda cool, there's a small fee for the park. There's a rest area just north of TB that overlooks Thunder Bay, The Sleeping Giant and Lake Superior. The Thomson Hill rest area just south of Duluth before you drop down thr hill that's a cool over look of the Duluth harbor.
If you like burgers and have time for lunch the Anchor Bar in Superior Wi is a trip! There's lots more, the Train Station in Duluth, in Two Harbors there's an old steam engine down by the water front that's pretty big.

Have a great trip!

Grand Marais 100 mi north of Duluth is a good stop for a break. If you are going as far as Thunder Bay. If the weather is good take one day continue around the top of the lake to Marathon and go back to Thunder Bay. Go as far as the road is close to the water. The North shore does not compare to the Canadian shore. the beauty in that area is unforgettable.
