Big Bend area
 

I live in what I believe is the most beautiful part of the state of Texas. Alpine is pretty much centrally located between Marfa, marathon and Fort Davis with the national park about 80 miles south of us. Hwy 170 (or River Road, as it's known locally) is one of the most beautiful rides in the country. It follows the course of the Rio Grande for much of its length with curves and hills and mountain scenery! Many loops ranging from 50 miles to 250 miles can be found here. My personal favorite is the Fort Davis Loop. Twisties, very little traffic if any, gorgeous scenery and good roads can be found all around. People from all over the world come here for the ride. Well worth the drive it takes to get here. But the journey is part of the destination, right?

I live east of Dallas in Sulphur Springs, and always wanted to ride to your neck of the woods.
I know it's beautiful there. I just need to make time and do it.

You won't regret it!

So true frawn...lived in East Texas for several years and tried to ride to Big Bend every year. A magical place. Visited with Hallie Stillwell a couple times at her store/campground and rode over that little bridge into La Linda, MX. Boquillas, Santa Elena, Chisos Basin, River Road, Fort Davis and beers on the porch in Terlingua before supper at the Starlight. Good times.

Went in the late 90s. LOVED it! River road, el Camino del rio, blew me away. I was a swamp boy then so...

Always thought I would go back in a jeep or set up to hike, cuz I know we passed on several spots for unpaved roads. Threw rocks over the river. Many great pics. Excellent trip and lots of history.

Only regret.... should have asked the border patrol guy we chatted with at the check station, Marfa lights? anything to them? Our neighbors at the rv park went back to watch, have always wondered if we should have.

It could be the op needs more than 3 posts in order to include pics.

I've got some time at the End of Sept and I'm thinking either Big Bend or Nachez Trace Parkway. Post up a few pics when you can to help me decide..I guess I cant go wrong either way.

BB may be hot in sept...but scenery wise, it would be the call..imuo:icon_rolleyes:
we did a trip zig zagging that area , up thru guadalupe, Carlsbad into New Mexico rockies. Great time.
