Default What trailer size?

I'm ready to buy a trailer to tow 2 Harley's. One is a Heritage; one is a Sportster although I want to move up from that soon.

What at kind of trailer and what size would be the best to easily load both bikes and pull? (I've never bought a trailer and not sure what to ask for.)

Also, how much minimum towing capacity do I need to pull 2 bikes and this trailer?

Any helpful advice is greatly appreciated since towing is new to me.
Thanks.

I have a 7' 0 wide x 12'-0 long tandem axle. I can fit 2 bikes (ultra glide & softail) plus luggage with no problem. I would not suggest anything less. 7' 0 wide a must IMO.

Are you asking about an open or a closed in trailer ...??? an open will be much ez'er to pull but then you'll deal w/ all the road grime all over the bikes when you get there ....the closed in will stop all that but will cost more up front and cost more to haul ...!!! your choice....
7x12 v-nose tandem axle ....heavy but stable and can put everything in it you need !!!

Definitely no smaller than 7x12 dual axle with electronic brakes, sometimes wish I would have went 14 to have a little more room. I use condor wheel chocks and them or something similar that allows one person loading is very nice to have. E-track is your friend and a flexible configuration that puts one bike in the middle or 2 staggered comes in handy. A standard 1/2 ton regular duty pickup will easily pull the trailer and 2 bikes. Gas mileage sucks, but will tow it no problem.

Springers4ever. Thanks for your pics. I'm looking into a closed trailer low hauler tandem axle . My question is would a 7.5x12 v-nose tandem hold 3 bikes? My thinking is two pulled in then filling the slot between them with another bike backed in. That way the handlebars will not have any "conflicts" with each other.

I have a BMW K 1600 GT (no bags) and a Breakout. She has a MV Agusta Dragster 800 RR. Only weighs about 380 LBS. So weight should not come into play here with the trailer.

Your thoughts/opinion would be most appreciated. I also am considering an open aluminum trailer where as length could be customized so no problem there with a tandem set-up. Much cheaper as well as lighter is my thinking with that option. I like tandems due to their non sway characteristics.

Mine is a 7x12 not a V nose and I can haul 2 Ultra's with no problem, just have to stagger them so handle bars don't hit

you'll never get three bikes in a 7x12 ...even w/ a v-nose ....you'll need to go longer for that ... !!!
not bagger's anyway....maybe dirt bikes or the on-off roads !!!

I had a 7x12 almost identical to the one above. I could easily haul two Road Kings and a lot of other gear. Mine had an awning and air conditioner which added a little to the weight. I also had a generator and a large ice chest in it. I towed it with a Ford Super Duty diesel with no problem at all. I think most half tons could have handled it as well.

I've got a 7x16, and it won't fit three. Unless the third is a dirt bike. I think I may be able to get 3 in a 8.5x16 but that's just an opinion. I'm going to sell my trailer next year; I've had it since 2006 and get a 8.5x20. I want something that I can put a car into as well as bikes.
