I use one of these:

Every time I stop I re-fold the map to show my route...... works great!

Verizon's deal for Canada and Mexico is pretty good. It's basically $2/24-hour period. So, if you make a call or text in those countries your 24-hour period begins and your US calling/texting plan kicks in. Not sure on data. Need to look that up.

Edit: Looked it up and need to make correction. In Canada it's $5/24-hour period and includes, voice, text and data. You have to go to myverizon and add the international travel plan but there's no charge for adding the plan.

I like the garmin zumo I can pre load the entire trip... the one on my 16 thats built in sucks
