Looking for a good route to get from Charlotte to Robinsville that isn't highway - and is easily doable in a day.

We will be doing the 1K Iron Butt down to Charlotte the day before and meeting the girls at the Charlotte airport and beginning our ride back to Maine via Blue Ridge Parkway.

I was thinking route 11 in SC to route 28 or 11 to 76, 64, 74.

Thoughts?

 

Well, just for kicks, I looked it up on MapQuest. It found 3 different routes:
1. US19S 5hrs 40min 223miles
2.US276N 5hrs 48min 232miles
3.SC11 6hrs 247miles.


I would check out all three, then make a decision.

 

SC 11 is a nice ride. Two lane road but can be scenic.

 

Look for back roads from your base in Charlotte, NC to:
Chimney Rock, NC or HendersonVille, NC or Cashiers, NC or Highlands, NC
All are off 64.
Then 28 should work well.
Keep in mind that back roads, non-interstate will be at 45 mph and day light only.
It will be a LONG day for such a ride.
Chimney rock & Lake Lure area is a nice ride and a ride to the top of Chimney Rock makes for a nice stop but it cost about $13 per person...see website..the boat ride on lake Lure was nice too..if short on time then maybe a lunch stop at the BBQ place near entrance near chimney rock park.
