Look into this:
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...bWvL_lU1ug3rWw

Full disclosure: They are relatives of mine, but they have great accomodations and will steer you in the right direction even if you don't use them.
Hill City is in the middle of the Hills and is a great place to get to anywhere around from.

We always stay in Rapid City just off I-90 on the east side, exit 59 I think. Lots of nice places, we usually stay at the Holiday Inn Express or Econolodge. Good sports bar/restaurant, Denny's , and Outback all right there. And a gas station/liquor store.

My personal preference has always been Hill City. Half hour from Rapid, hour from Sturgis, close to Rushmore and Custer. Good roads which ever direction you go.

I'd say get out in the Hills someplace. Hill City would be fine best I can tell. Rapid City....not much different than the boxes and chains back home. In the North Hills take a look at Spearfish as a possibility.

That's a bonus!

I try to get up there a couple times a year. Love the Hills.

Several years ago we stayed just north of Custer at a Mom & Pop style place called the Bavarian Inn Motel & Restaurant.

Don't know if it's still there or not but the number I have is 605-673-2802.

My group always stay at Howard Johnson's in Rapid City. It is not that expensive and they are very biker friendly. They have a great security plan, free drinks during happy hour, a great pool and hot tub. The rooms are great, they have a great breakfast and give free bottled water to take when you go out on rides. It is very quiet and if you want to go to the bars in town, you won't wear out the knees of your pants crawling back to the hotel in the drunken stupor you may put yourself into.
